What we Believe

At Pleasant Valley Lutheran, we believe, teach and confess...

The Trinity

There is only one true God -- The Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), as confessed in the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed throughout history. God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things.

Sin

All people are born in bondage to sin, death, and the devil. We are unable to save ourselves or make ourselves right with God by our own powers.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is our Lord and Savior from sin, death, and hell. He is both true God and true man, born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a perfect and holy life for us, shed His blood for us on the cross to atone for our sins, and rose from the dead on the third day declaring His victory over Satan and the grave for us.

The Ministry of Word and Sacrament

The Holy Spirit calls us to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins by the Word of God. Forgiveness, life, and salvation are given to us fully and freely as an unearned gift of God, through the preaching of the Word, through Baptism, and through the Lord's Supper.

Christian Living

First  we trust God's promise to hold no sin against us, and only then can we lead holy lives according to His will. Thus, Christ works in believers through His Word and Spirit, so that we trust in God, fight against sin, and live in sacrificial love for others in whatever walk of life to which He has called us.

The Bible

The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, without human errors. It is the final judge of all teaching and practice in the Church and in the lives of Christians.

Life and Family

All human life is equal, created by God and sacred from conception until death. Marriage is created by God to be between one man and one woman, in which human sexuality is blessed for the expression of love and the procreation of children.
